TOOL Guitarist, Bassist Begin Writing Next Album
February 9, 2009Brad Angle of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with TOOL guitarist Adam Jones. When asked how the songwriting process for the band's new album was coming along, Jones replied, "It's been coming along... great! [laughs] No, we've been on hiatus. I'm writing and [bassist] Justin [Chancellor]'s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine. We've all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I've also been working on producing some comics."
The entire interview can be found in the latest issue of Guitar World, out on newsstands now.
TOOL has been on break from touring and writing since early 2008, following nearly two years of supporting their most recent studio album, 2006's "10,000 Days", which marked its first set of new material since 2001's "Lateralus".
In December, Maynard James Keenan revealed that he had been working with A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel on new material for a possible new release. When asked about releasing the material or touring, he stated, "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."
